D2 shortlisted for Project Controls Expo Small Business of the Year Awards

Why is this award important to us?

D2 is a growing and independent SME. Formed in 2011 with 3 construction planners supporting a single rail project, we now provide the full suite of Project Controls services to several of the  largest infrastructure projects across the UK and in Canada.

This award recognises our strength and passion for Project Controls, which our Programme Performance team is responsible for. Covering Controls, Planning, Risk, Data, Cost of Carbon and Scope and Change, the D2 Programme Performance team has seen a 30% growth in the first half of 2024 alone.

The award submission enabled us to showcase not only our core Programme Performance services, but also to highlight our growing strengths and capabilities in Digital Technology, Information Management, Project Management and Utilities Management.

Furthermore, the Global Project Control Small Business of the Year award submission requirements allowed us to demonstrate how we live and breathe our core values in everything we do:

People
Our strength is our people. Our Programme Performance competency framework, which has been developed to strengthen controls aspects in our PM team APM-aligned competency framework, and bespoke Programme Performance Career Pathway Framework provides our team with the structured, yet flexible (i.e. various paths/bodies supported) development roadmap for our team to actively advance their career with full D2 mutual buy-in and support.

Integrity
Our award was endorsed by one of our key clients, and highlighted our unwavering commitment to exceeding client expectations whilst recognising some of our long-standing strategic client relationships including Network Rail and TransPennine Route Upgrade.

Innovation
As we will present at both Project Controls Expo USA and UK, the award submission highlighted our core value of innovation. We showcased how through our Digital Technology and Data Science teams we are integrating key Programme Performance and controls capabilities and solutions to tackle emerging Project Controls challenges.

Community
Finally, the award submission acknowledged our thriving Programme Performance community, which has recently developed the D2 Training Academy to continue growing controls professionals for the future, and also the Programme Performance Mentoring programme which we trialled with recent graduate cohort and have started to roll out to the wider team, pairing candidates with technical, peer and senior mentors across the business.

“I am delighted D2 Global have been shortlisted as finalists of the Global Project Control Small Business of the Year. It is well deserved recognition for our long standing commitment to the Project Controls industry, passion for developing innovative professionals for the future and our ongoing growth ambitions and ability to attract some of the industry’s best talent to our thriving Programme Performance team.

This award means so much to a small business like D2 Global and recognises the critical role Small Business’ play in successful delivery and we wish all finalists luck on the night!”

Graham Nicol, Programme Performance Director
