A year of great achievements

As 2024 draws to a close and I complete my first few weeks as CEO, I’ve been reflecting on what’s been an incredibly busy year for the industry and projects we work in and the clients and partners we support. We are proud to have played a small part in helping some fantastic teams achieve important industry milestones, including:

Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU)

  • The first electric train ran from Manchester to Stalybridge.
  • Introduction of Morley Station to the rail network.
  • Confirmation of the £2bn contract to deliver the next phase of the TRU West Project through to 2028.
Network Rail Service Partner Framework

  • Supporting the Weather Resilience Task Force to mitigate the ever-growing danger of flooding and landslips across the network.
  • Midland Mainline Electrification, where we are helping to develop the programme for the next phase of the project.
Network Rail Supply Chain Operations

  • Developed and implemented a new web-based interactive site induction system for Holgate Depot, with further depots planned for roll out.
LNER Train Operator

  • Successful deployment of a new rail timetabling system, providing the right tools for operational performance.
Canada’s Go Expansion Programme

  • Achieved a deliverable rail access plan to support operational planning for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with games taking place in Toronto.
  • Achieving significant improvements in rail access utilization across the GO network, through implementation of our rail access planning tool, Swiftview.

To ensure we continue to provide the very best support to our clients and partners we have spent time this year documenting our approach to quality and professional development, achieving ISO 9001:2015 and APM corporate accreditation. These efforts culminated in being awarded Global Small Business of the Year at Project Controls Expo in November, something we’re immensely proud of as it recognises our efforts in building a community of aspiring project professionals.

As I sign off for the year, on behalf of the D2 community, I would like to thank our clients and partners for the opportunity to support delivery of some of the most challenging projects in the UK and Canada and wish you all a happy and healthy festive break. We look forward to returning refreshed in the new year and driving progress in the infrastructure sector together in 2025.
