A rewarding month for team D2

Over the past month we have had the privilege of supporting Project Controls Expo USA, at the Nationals baseball stadium, and Project Controls Expo UK at Wembley, home of England’s national football teams. These iconic locations serve as a hotbed of discussion, networking, and celebration for project professionals once a year.

Expanding our influence in North America

Having attended Project Controls Expo USA as delegates in 2023, we were honoured to be a Gold Sponsor at the USA edition of the Expo this year, with members of our Manchester HQ and Toronto satellite office representing D2. This engagement provided a platform for the team to connect and engage with industry professionals, share insights, and discuss innovation on a global scale.

Developing the next generation

This year we welcomed 4 graduates and our first project professional apprentice to the team reflecting our commitment to developing the next generation of talented professionals. When the team behind Project Controls Expo offered the opportunity to select an award to sponsor at this year’s annual awards ceremony at Wembley stadium, we jumped at the chance to partner on the UK Project Controls Apprentice of the Year.

Graham Nicol, D2 Programme Performance Director, had the honour of presenting this year’s award to Stefanie Bragg from Costain, a well deserved award recognising a smooth transition from forensic science to Level 6 Project Controls apprentice.

Our team presented at both editions of the Expo this year, with Rami Daniel, Programme Performance Associate from Toronto and Matthew Sykes, Head of Digital Technology, presenting in the USA and Graham Nicol and Matthew presenting in the UK.

At each event they delivered a highly engaging presentation exploring how the project controls community can make use of technology to “bring the schedule to life” for stakeholders. The team showcased new powerful 3D scheduling tools designed to aid planners tell the story of a schedule.

Industry recognition for the D2 community

Our team supporting Transpennine Route Upgrade to implement a smart reporting app, led by Ashley Williams, Head of Data Science, were shortlisted as finalists for Global Project Controls Innovation of the Year. A nomination that recognised the step change in data management that the team has introduced to this major programme.

The highlight of the event was D2 being awarded the inaugural ‘Global Small Business of the Year’ award. The award itself shines a spotlight on the role small businesses (SMEs) play in the industry and the potential for SMEs to help solve resourcing, technical and delivery risks in major programme. Receiving this accolade is a testament to the talent, hard work, and commitment of the entire D2 community since the company was founded in 2011. It validates the support provided by our clients and means a great deal to the team, endorsing our passion for delivering exceptional service.
